Auricular Acupuncture
Auricular acupuncture was created in 1957 by a neurologist, Dr. Nogier. In his work, he mapped how the nervous system branches throughout the body, creating microcosms (small areas which can represent the rest of the nervous system).
The ear is a major hub for blood vessels and nerves, and Dr. Nogier focused on creating a map on the ear for all the spots which correlate to the rest of the body. Using this map, ear needling can influence the rest of the body, reducing stress and pain while also treating deeper issues, such as organ dysfunction, insomnia, and metabolic disease.
Today, auricular acupuncture is used in hospitals and even on battlefields, treating pain from trauma, surgery and labor. A common protocol called the NADA protocol, is used with other therapies for addiction and trauma treatment.
Because of its small area of treatment, auricular needling is perfect for patients who are needle sensitive, have reactive nervous systems, or in settings where a patient might not be able to undress.
